A decorative and rare lithograph of a scene in Bali, by the famous Willem Hofker.
This rare 1948 lithograph by the famous Willem Gerard Hofker (1902-1981) titled "Balische Compositie" of more well known as "Balinese Woman with the view of Abangan, Ubud" is regarded as one of the finest prints done by Hofker during his life. This exquisite composition by Hofker was done from one of his original drawing compositions in c.1946 which is now in a private collection.
This was the view of the "sawas" (fields) and the ravine that was located behind the house of the artist in Abangan, Ubud; and on the lower-left corner the composition showed the 'Balinese style Candi' which was one of Hofker's private 'House of the Gods' on the edge of his private home's yard.
As long as it goes, there is only about four other known 'Abangan' image that was produced by the artist, one of them is in the collection of Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam. This is an extremely rare find for those interested in Balinese art and the works of the great master, Gerard Hofker. This lithograph print is signed in stone and is in mint condition. The image is framed, a rare and highly sort after piece of the artist's work.
This picture was also illustrated in the book: "Willem Hofker - Schilder van Bali", Picture Publishers, 1993, on page 143.
