An extremely rare map English of the Malay Peninsula by Edward Stanford, including all of the modern day Malaysia, Singapore, and parts of Thailand. The map extends from Ko Tarutao and Langkawi, south as far as Singapore and Sumatra, and from the Strait of Malacca to the South China Sea. Detailed insets of Singapore and the Gulf of Siam decorate the top right corner.
This richly detailed map rarely appears on the market, and with only a few copies known that are scattered around in collections of libraries, museums and other institutions, this map is much sought-after by collectors. Shown and described on this large-size map (1616 x 1215 mm.) are the British territory, the Federated Malay States under British protection, Siamese States, boundaries defined by surveys and boundaries undefined. Bridle roads and paths, railways, proposed railways, rivers and streams, gold and tin mining, rubber plantations, indigenous villages and many more.
