Beautiful full-colour map of the Indies by Robert de Vaugondy (1688-1766) showing Southeast Asia and parts of the northern Pacific.
Gilles Robert de Vaugondy and his son Didier Robert de Vaugondy were leading cartographers of 18th century France. The father and son produced the much-celebrated 1757 Atlas Universel, a highly accurate collection of maps, correcting many mistakes from previous sources through astronomical observations.
This attractive full-colour map shows the entirety of Southeast Asia along with Southern China and key Pacific islands such as the Marianas, Formosa, and the Lewchew/Ryukyu islands. Terrain of major islands like Java, Sumatra, and Borneo are shown as well.
