Two original antique photographs of Java views taken by Woodbury and Page, the famous photography atelier.
The first image is of Gunung Salak, a popular retreat destination located south of Batavia. It was a place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the metropole.
The second is a canal near the outskirts of Batavia. Though still within city limits, parts of Batavia were left with plenty of trees to line the streets to give a sense of calm. Canals were not only important for goods but people too as they were often the source of water for the houses in the area.
