Antique Photograph of Weltevreden in Batavia from ca. 1880. The area was once a prime residential area for the Europeans of Batavia. The name itself comes from the Dutch phrase "Well-contented" and was first established in 1787. Today, the area makes up parts of Jakarta's modern district of Sawah Besar and still features architecture from the colonial period such as the Pasar Baru market, the Jakarta Arts Building, and the Jakarta Cathedral.
