Aquatint prints of Brazil

Set of 2 aquatint prints of Brazil based on descriptions made during the three-year world tour of French corvette La Favorite.

At the time the voyages were made, the Empire of Brazil was a newly independent country having won a war against Portugal in 1822. The corvette stopped in the then capital Rio de Janeiro and what was also the largest city in Brazil. The two prints feature a view of the city from the sea and a view of one of the main streets in the metropolis.

Taken from an 1835 travelogue commemorating the voyages of the French corvette La Favorite under the comannad of M. Laplace. The book was titled "Voyage autour du monde par le mers de l'inde et de la chine."
