An uncoloured map from Sanson focusing on the lower Malaysian peninsula, the Sunda Isles, Sumatra, Borneo and Java in extreme detail including cities, waters, topography and dense jungles (in Borneo).
A decorative rococo style cartouche on the bottom left. A very rare and attractive map in good condition with wide margins and minimal tone from ageing.
Nicolas Sanson (1600 - 1667) was a French cartographer who served under two kings in matters of geography. He has been called the "father of French cartography".
