A very scarce map by Pierre Bourgoin from the mid- 18th century, this beautifully hand-coloured copperplate map shows South East Asia Stretching from Sumatra to New Guinea and includes Vietnam and the Philippines going down to Timor. The map reflects quite early depictions of the area as Borneo and Sulawesi are not quite the right shape as are the southern Philippines. The East Coast of New Guinea had not been discovered and there is a supposed land bridge vaguely hinted at between New Guinea and Northern Australia.
